Willie McFarland Jr., a 69 year old Ansonia resident, passed away suddenly at home on Aug. 26. He was born July 10, 1954 in Darlington, S.C., son of the late Willie and Clemmie McFarland. Willie attended and graduated from Ansonia High School. In doing so, he played basketball for the A.H.S. basketball team from 1970 to 1972. During that time, he set multiple records that still stand till this day. It is safe to say he is the “G.O.A.T” for the A.H.S basketball program. After graduating he attended Seton Hall University, where he also played basketball. In his career, Willie went on to work for Ansonia’s Public Works for several years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Monty Mack of Boston Mass. and daughter Theresa Arline of Waterbury, Conn. his sisters Jane Holley of Fayetteville, Ark. Daisy Dailey and Brother-in-law Willie Dailey of Naugatuck, Conn. And, his brother Ronald McFarland of Simi Valley, Calif. His Aunt Geraldine Saunders of New Haven, Conn. and Uncle John Henry McFarlin of New Brunswick, N.J. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held September 9 at 11:00 a.m. from The Star Bethlehem C.O.G.I.C. of Ansonia. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home of Ansonia has been entrusted with arrangements.
