Samuel Smith Jr. Obituary

Another soul left this world when Samuel Smith Jr. passed away on December 16, 2022. He has joined his beloved predeceased grandmother Maggie Gatison and brother Damontis Johnson.

Samuel was born on August 12, 1982 to Mia Gatison Johnson and Samuel Smith Sr. Samuel went by many nicknames: S, Samme, Samme J, SJ. As a child, Samme enjoyed sports much like basketball and football. His passion for these sports led him to be a role model for kids in the community. Many looked up to him and considered him as a big brother figure.  Samme above all was a loving husband and father. More than he loved himself he loved his children and wife. Through all his ups and downs he remain the most kind, sweet, compassionate soul. He would literally take the shirt off his back and shoes off his feet for anyone. He was always there for others, continuing to put others needs above his own. He was selfless. Samme was known for his loud energetic energy and his humor was out of this world. He was truly a force that could not be reckoned with. His hobbies included his passion for cars and sound systems, his very extensive shoe collection, and learning and entertaining himself through YouTube. Samme also took joy out of playing Keno, there was not a day he didn’t play.

Samme was a beloved son, brother, grandchild, nephew, cousin, godson, friend, husband and father. Family he left behind in addition to his parents, Mia and Sam include: his wife, Tina Smith. His children: Taijah Smith, Azariah Smith, Kieara Diaz, Tevon I. Smith, Neyla Smith, Imahni Blanco, Alesha Gomez and Xavier Velleco. His nephew Davius Johnson and niece Samiah Baiz-Byrd. His sisters in law Shawntel Davis, Ana Baiz and his brother in law Anthony Martino. His grandparents Dock (Sam) Smith Jr, Marjorie Smith, Geraldine Silva, Patricia Johnson and Richard Edmonds (Maria). His mother and father in law Ella Baiz and Jeff Johnson. His aunts and uncles Alita Ford (Anthony), Jeffery Smith (Vetina), Natalie Crockett (Greylin), Shane Edmonds, Richard Edmonds Jr, Gordon Greg, and Dean Gregg and honorary aunts Darien Gatison, Dawn Lathrop, Jodi Gregg and Gail Byrd and his great aunt Dorothy Gandy, Saundra Robinson and great uncle Alphonso Gatison and many many cousins and friends old and new. He will be forever in our hearts. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29  at 10:30 a.m. from The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia.
