Richard Scaife, a 97 year old long time Valley resident entered into eternal rest Jan. 23. He was born February 26, 1928 in Derby, CT., son of the former Annie Todd McWilliams Scaife and William Cooper Scaife. He attended Derby Schools graduating from Derby High School in 1945. He graduated from Bullard Haven Technical School and New Haven College with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served a short term before being medically discharged. He was employed by Tryon Mfg., Shelton; Seymour Mfg. Co., Seymour, and retired from Farrel Corporation, Ansonia, CT after 40 years.
He was married to Ida Mae See Scaife and was the father of four: Richard W. Scaife (Carolyn), Henrietta, NY; Gary S. Scaife (Kathleen), Trinity, FL; David A. Scaife, and Lisa A. Pimenta (Francis), of Ansonia. He had 9 grandchildren: Richard P. Scaife (Jody); Sheri L. Dwinell, Fort Worth, TX; Kristin H Baillargeon (Jeremy), Tarpon Spring, FL; Deanna L. Scaife, Littleton, CO; Francis J Pimenta (Lauren), Holly Ridge, NC; Kyle Pimenta (Chelsea), Meriden, CT; Dylan C. Scaife (Lexi), Olathe, KS; David W. Pimenta (Meghan), Jacksonville, NC and Rebekah A. Yannes (Michael), Hamden, CT. He also leaves nine Great Grandchildren and three Great Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by one cousin: Jeanne Speranza (Kenneth), Stuart, FL.
Richard was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ansonia since 1953 and served as Superintendent of Sunday School, member, Board of Trustees and served on many committees of the church.
Richard served as Secretary for Valley Transit; was a member of Eagle Hose Co., Ansonia and worked during the 1955 flood. He served as member and of the Hotchkiss Hose Co. Derby for 20 yrs. and was Captain in 1956. He was enrolled in Boy Scouts in Derby at Pack 3; Troop 3; Explorer Post 33; and Air Scout Group.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Burial will be private.
