LeRoy Glover Obituary

LeRoy Thomas Glover, age 99 of Shelton CT. entered into rest at home on March 28, 2021. Born June 9, 1921 to the late former mayor Charles D. Glover and his wife Edith Hubbell Glover, he was a lifelong Shelton resident. Roy was predeceased by his four brothers Charles,  Fred, Donald and George,  all of Shelton and his dear friend Aldea Dokla. Roy served as a Technical Sergeant in the USMC during WWII from 1942-1945 in Okinawa. He returned home and worked with his father Charles for The Glover Construction Co., formerly Glover & Regan. An active community member, Roy served as director and Chairman of the Board of the Shelton Savings & Loan Assoc., he served as chairman of the Webster Bank Advisory Board in Derby and was a United Way volunteer. He was a director of the Shelton Boys & Girls Club for over 50 years where he received ‘The Service To Youth’ Award.

He was a former trustee of the Hewitt Memorial Hospital & director of the Derby Recreation Camp. Roy was also a member of The Masonic Order, King Hiram Lodge #12 American Legion V.F.W. Post 16, The Port 5 National Assoc. of Naval Veterans and the Shelton Republican Town Committee, where he received the Shelton John Davis Lodge Award in 1989. He served as an auxiliary State Trooper in 1960 and was an honorary member of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Assoc. Roy was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. and in his spare time built a helicopter in his backyard. He is survived by his former wife Barbara W. Glover, his son Thomas L. Glover of Shelton his daughter Catherine D. Wesoly of Burlington, CT., five grandchildren Jason Glover and Erin (Glover) Velush & her husband Evan all of Shelton, Amy Wesoly of Harrisburg, PA., Alyssa (Wesoly) Healey and her husband Jason of Norton, MA., and Kristen(Wesoly) Woodworth and her husband David of Tolland, CT. He also has two great grandchildren Liam Woodworth and Kaelin Healey. In lieu of flowers, Roy would prefer donations in his memory be made to The Highland Baptist Cemetery Assoc. of Shelton, The Shelton Boys & Girls Club or The Derby Recreation Camp.  The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. has been privileged with the arrangements. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the White Hills Baptist Church, on School St. in Shelton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
