Joseph Paul Shortell

Joseph “Jo Jo” Paul Shortell, a 63 year old Derby resident and husband to Kristin Gustavson Shortell, entered into eternal rest July 3. He was born Feb. 18, 1960 in Derby son of the late Matthew “Pop” and Bernice Kiley Shortell. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Susan Coughlin & Dorothy Shortell and brother William Shortell. He graduated from Ansonia High School, Class of 1978 and attended Nichols College and S.C.S.U. He worked for The State of CT as a juvenile detention shift supervisor until retirement. A parishioner of The Church of the Assumption, he was loved by many for his warm and humorous personality and he cherished the time spent with family and friends. In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughters Brittany Shortell (Rob Harayda) Dorothy Shortell (Jose Diaz) and Courtney Shortell, grandsons Robert Joseph and Jacob John Harayda, his siblings Matthew Shortell (Kathi) Maryanne Mangano (Ron) James Shortell (Joan) Beth Lynch (Thomas) Patrick Shortell (Christine) Steven Shortell & Michael Shortell (Lori) and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. The funeral will leave for A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to The American Heart Association  or The Shriners’ Hospital for Crippled Children.
