Gertrude Gatison Hodges

Gertrude Gatison Hodges, wife of the late John Hodges, and former longtime Ansonia resident currently resident of North Carolina, passed away Nov. 27. She was born May 14, 1927 in Ansonia to the late Martha Smith and Leo Davis. She was raised by her grandparents John W. Gatison Sr. and his wife Anna Samuels Gatison. She attended The Ansonia School System, graduating from The Ansonia High School. “Gert” or “Lil’ Gertie” as she was known by family and friends, worked in her grandfather’s grocery store down on Front St. She also worked for years as a homemaker to Mrs. Amelia Klarides, and the Teledyne Machine Factory. She belonged to Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia where most of the family grew up in, where she ushered faithfully until she visited The Back to the Bible Church and decided to make it her home. She was an ordained Missionary, and an ordained mother of Back to The Bible Church, where her late Overseer and Pastor Viola Moore was also her mentor and friend. After relocating to Wilmington, N.C. she became one of the Mothers of Maranatha Temple of Praise under the leadership of Pastor Shirley A. Nelson. There, she lived with her one and only loving and dedicated daughter Shirley and son in law Floyd Miller Jr. In addition to them, she leaves to mourn her transition her three grandsons Floyd Miller III of Hartford, Earl Miller and Michael Miller of Wilmington, N.C. Gert has 23 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, Za’Niya, India, Shawn Jr. Ja’Lea, Ziare, Ava & Isaiah, and a special great grandson Jazzman Miller & many, many cousins. She was predeceased by her children’s father Marion Johnny Hodge, their two sons Melvyn and Sherman Hodge, her loving mother Martha Gatison Smith and all of her loving aunts and uncles who she grew up with. Very special people in her life until her transitioning were Debbie Andrucci, Kyle Kelly & Fritz Mayo. Funeral services will be held on Friday,  11:00 a.m. from The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
