Gary DeAngelis Obituary

Gary Louis DeAngelis, age 64, of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the Hewitt (Apple) Health and Rehab Center following a prolonged illness. He was the devoted husband of Dawn Marie Silver DeAngelis, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage.

Born in Derby on May 7, 1961, Gary was the son of the late Ciro and Laura Tanner Koskelowski DeAngelis. A proud 1983 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, Gary dedicated his professional life to the well-being of others. He served as a compassionate social worker for several local non-profit agencies until his retirement and was a dedicated board member for the Connecticut Legal Rights Project.

In addition to his beloved wife, Gary leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Emilee Laura Zhi DeAngelis of Ansonia; his brother, Robert Koskelowski of Seymour; and his sisters-in-law, Constance Koskelowski of Shelton and Lynda Hooper (Dean) of Ogdensburg, N.Y. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his four brothers, Michael, Frank, and Thomas Koskelowski, and James DeAngelis, as well as his sister-in-law, Diana Koskelowski.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the DaVita Dialysis Center in Shelton, Hewitt Health and Rehab Center, and the Valley Transit District for their exceptional care and support.

Memorial Contributions

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gary’s memory to Bridges Healthcare (949 Bridgeport Ave., Milford, CT 06460).

Contributions will support joint social outings and activities for The Valley Social Club, Open Door Wellness Center, and Options Social Club—programs that facilitate recovery for individuals with behavioral health and substance use challenges. These organizations held a very special place in Gary and Dawn’s hearts.
