Elwood "Woody" Scheeler an 87 year old longtime Ansonia resident currently of Southbury and beloved husband of the late Evelyn Tingley Scheeler, passed away Sept. 16 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was born April 21, 1934 in Seltzer, PA, son of the late Adam and Ida (Froutz) Sheeler.
Elwood loved music and played violin, accordion, saxophone, and clarinet his entire life. He long music career started with the Pottsville High School band, and continued with the Cressona Band (PA), The US Army Band at Fort Eustis, VA, the Melody Bells, Dick Walonis Big Band, Naugautuck Community Band, the Milford Community Band and the Tribury Band.
Elwood worked in the coal mines with his father and brothers. He was a veteran of the US Army. He worked at Sikorsky Helicopters and owned Elwood's Electronic Service in Ansonia. He retired from AVCO Lycoming where he was a tool maker and machinist.
He was predeceased by his siblings Adam, Carl & Herman Scheeler, Dorothy Broadfoot, Robert, Ruth, Wayne, and Arthur Sheeler. He is survived by his sister-in-law Ida Sheeler, and his nieces and nephews Denise Rich, Cynthia Barbedette, Dot Scheeler-Breen, Richard Scheeler, Leona Parsons, Arleen Coady, Linda Hettinger, Ralph "Ray" Tingley, and Betty Ellen Geloso. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia. Burial follows in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
