Obituary
Dorothy A. (Olson) Burns, 84, of Ansonia CT, entered into eternal rest at her home on September 3, 2023. She was the devoted wife to the late Richard M. Burns.
Dorothy was born December 21,1938 to the late Charles Fredrick and Ruth (Jacobson) Olson. She graduated from Ansonia High School in 1956 and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She spent her entire career as a registered nurse at Griffin Hospital in Derby CT. Thirty years of caring for the people in the community she loved. Dorothy was deeply kind and genuinely loving to everyone. Her friendships were cherished and brought her endless joy. Through her 62 years of marriage to Richard they lovingly raised three daughters. Enjoyed countless trips with friends and hosted numerous picnics with friends and family. She was devoted to her grandchildren and was involved in all of their life events. Always taking pride in documenting them in photos. Dorothy was a communicant of The Church of Assumption and a past Eucharistic minister. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Kathleen Simon (Michael), Maureen Sawn (Thomas) and Dorothy Sergi (John), six grandchildren, Sam, Caroline, Matthew, Olivia, Hannah and Grace. She also leaves her dearest cousin Susan (Erhardt) Hackett, sister-in-law Irene Brown (David) and brother-in-law Peter Burns(Patricia) and many dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the home caregivers, Sharon, Betty and Diane for their wonderful care and support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at 10:00 a.m. (DIRECTLY) from The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Assumption Church, or to The Griffin Hospital Development Fund.
