Donald J. Popikas a 92 year old Ansonia resident and husband to Sharon Libby Popikas, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 4. He was born April 17, 1933 in Waterbury, son of the late Charles and Helen Sacalas Popikas. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Donald worked as a truck driver for Interstate Containers, and was a member of The Teamsters Union. Donald was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Derby.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John Popikas and his devoted partner, Heather Lucas of Stratford; his daughters, Joan Ajello Elliott of Beacon Falls, Lisa Ajello Delatorre of Florida; and his sister, Arline Drugonis of Vermont. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Popikas.
Friends may call at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. (DIRECTLY) at St. Mary’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery.
