Albert Tavares Obituary

Albert Tavares, 66, a resident of West Haven, Connecticut and husband of the late Linda Lee (Kovzel) Tavares passed away due to illness at home on June 23, 2021. He was born on October 22, 1954 in Derby, the son of the late, Mary (Ruth) Tavares Lawton and the late Andrew Martin Tavares.

Albert “Cool Breeze” graduated from Ansonia High School. He joined the high school band and played the drums and trumpet. He was employed at Ansonia Copper & Brass, the H.C. Cook Co., Inc., both in Ansonia and Seymour Specialty Wire in Seymour. Albert also bartended for a short time at Nite Time Cafe in Bridgeport for his former father and mother-in-law. Eventually, he had to stop working because of health complications.

The simplest leisure’s in life brought great joy to Albert. He had a passion for music, food, the beach, and tinkering with cars. Albert loved nothing more than being with family and friends with a “cold one” in hand and a cigar in the other. He often told his former mother-in-law, “that his three kids, grandkids and great-grand were his pride and joy.” Albert will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Albert leaves behind to cherish his loving memory sons, Brandon Tavares (Deja) of New Haven, CT, Randall Tavares (Kim) of Hamden, CT; daughter, Rekesha Tavares of New Haven, CT; grandsons, Elijah Behrle, Kai Maxwell, Randall "Mann", Avian and Azari Tavares;  granddaughters, Briara, Brooke and Khloe Tavares; great-granddaughter, Leilani Behrle; former spouse, Brenda James, whom he shared his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild;  brothers, Manuel S. Tavares (Margo) of Charleston, SC, Philip Pelzer (Linda) of Tolland, CT; sisters, Julia and Pauline Tavares both of Naugatuck, CT, Alberta Tavares Daniels (Kevin) of Powder Springs, GA, Angelina Franklin (Johnny) of Cheektowaga, NY, and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Albert was also predeceased by sister, Gloria Pelzer; brother, Sidney Tavares; niece, Vida Pelzer; and a very close friend and the godfather of his children, Louis “Butchie” Diaz.
